a. Constitution & Bylaws

Committees affiliated with the Texas A&M Student Government Association are subject to the processes outlined in the SGA Operations Manual which includes the SGA Constitution and Executive Branch Bylaws.

b. Mission Statement

As a representative of Texas A&M, the Environmental Issues Committee actively strives to provide and support:

  • programs which enhance environmental education and awareness,

  • programs which reduce the community's impact on the environment, and

  • sound environmental legislation on and off campus, in order to improve quality of life.

c. Vision Statement

Education:  To bring forth and inspire learning about the pressing issues of the environment to facilitate action.  

Commitment:  To stay vigilant, informed and steadfast to the core value of environmental activism.

Initiative:  To be at the forefront of progress; leading the nation in environmentally sound practices and addressing situations before they become problems; in doing so securing a better today and a brighter future.  

d. Goals & Action Plans

For Leaders: To develop their leadership skills by coordinating events
for the membership and general population in accordance with the
vision and mission statements.
For Members: To develop their knowledge and skills in accordance with
the vision and mission statements through involvements in events.
For Participants: To develop their knowledge in accordance with the
vision and mission statements through involvement in events.​

e. History of Changes to Governing Documents

In this section, include list of amendments made to constitution, focusing on major changes to this document, such as a change in mission or purpose.

March 2018-  Vice Chair position removed; Finance, Media, and Membership combined into one subcommittee (effective Fall 2018).

May 2018- New Chair and Executive Officer information updated

March 2019- Director of Media and SGA & Campus Politics combined; Director of Finance and Membership left as is

February 2020 - Major changes instituted to transform EIC into a director only organization that places a larger focus on pursuing projects and completing them instead of on recruitment of a long term membership.

                      - Major changes were decided to dramatically change bylaws to adapt to this new system including but not limited to the process through which new directors are chosen and what positions are available.

f. Texas A&M Student Rules

The Environmental Issues Committee supports Texas A&M University's
Student Rules, and in accordance with applicable federal and state law

i. Drug & Alcohol Use

Prohibits the consumption, sale, and use of alcohol and/or drugs, as well as intoxication, in any of its activities.

ii. Hazing

Prohibits "hazing," defined as any intentional, knowing or reckless
act by an individual or individuals directed against an individual,
that endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student in
any of its activities.

iii. Sexual Harassment

 Prohibits sexual harassment in any of its activities.

iv. Discrimination

Prohibits discrimination, including harassment on the basis of race,
color, national or ethnic origin, religion, sex, disability, age,
sexual orientation, or veteran status, in any of its activities.
